Spammers offer nothing for R1 plus postage and packaging
A little while back, Deal A Day got their fingers burnt when they SPAMMED the wrong people. Simon made a big fuss about it and word spread and action was taken. Deal A Day’s hosting of their site was suspended by their hosts Centeq (word up! and thanx to The Plonk) and they had to move.
Today I got a notification that their advertising campaign on Offerforge came to an end so I thought hang on, last time I checked they were stranded without a host? Turns out they are back online, hosted by the very people they used to spread their SPAM.
What I did find was a somewhat funny offer on their main page. They offer nothing that usually costs R2 for R1 plus postage and packaging that could be between R8 and R130. See for yourself!

I just hope they learned a lesson and will not send email offers to people that didn’t ask for it. All the best with selling that deal to anyone. Without employing SPAM tactics that is ;-).

I like how they coded the site to work of test.php page.
Oh, and they charge you an extra 5% if you pay by credit card. Pathetic.
While I totally agree with naming and shaming, there are so many spammers out there, South African spammers make up a very small part of the global market. I think we should rather work on generic tools and technologies to make it all the more difficult for these people and get a legal body in South Africa that will act on abuse from South African IP addresses. This problem goes far wider and I’m of the opinion that the less we give these idiots exposure the better.
Hehe, Charl, considering that the first SPAM message was sent on May 01 1978, 30 years ago, I’d say technology is failing to keep up with the ingenuity of these fools. So no, there will be no quick solution any day soon. Thats why we go vigilante on their asses and will keep doing so. You know the story of the boy saving starfish? Thats what we’re achieving here.
I have also visited their website (http://www.dealaday.co.za) this morning and see they are actually live as promised.
I have to say, I have been following to some extend what has happened and that was wrong (stupid), but they seem like a decent company that really deliver great new deals every day. For example, today’s deal:
A Russell Hobbs Coffee Maker & Russell Hobbs 2 Slice Sandwich Maker at only 375, I am certainly buying one!!!
I hope they sort their spamming problems out, since I am excited to see what tomorrows (and the day after etc) deals will be.
Point taken, although if you look at Gmail’s spam protection there certainly are some pretty cool technologies out there. Also, Askimet etc. The problem is that they mostly catch the big-time spammers and not really the small-timers we have in South Africa.
