Mike tagged me almost a month ago. Well, if January was February it would have been 5 days to a full month. How this is supposed to work is that I now have to tell everyone 8 things about myself they probably don’t know. Quite frankly, I can think of 8000 more interesting things to talk about, but myself.
Here is the 8 things:
I used to love to play tag when I was 8 years old. Now I love playing tag using blogs as it makes me feel 8 years old once more.
Tags is actually XMLRPC calls from one blog to another which Afrigator, Amatomu and Technorati picks up and let bloggers tagged see that they’re it. A.K.A. a pingback.
Tagging Charl is like trying to tag that skinny, slinky boy on the schoolyard which everyone always misses. Charl uses blogger.com/blogspot.com and they don’t support pingbacks.
Tagging Belinda is great fun! It will confuse the living daylights out of her.
Tagging Sessa is likely to irritate the living SHIT out of him… Damn, I’m such a sucker. Mind you, it would probably piss off most the guys I’m tagging here. (With the exception of B, who’ll be confused…)
If you get into the game late, you’re going to struggle to find other friends to tag. I know about another 200 or 300 if you need names. Just shout.
Tagging is cool as it makes me want to stick out my tongue at Facebook and go: “Nah nah-nah nah naaaah nah! We can also social network without you, Big Brother!”
I’m so damn unfit that all this tagging gave me a blinding side stitch
Here’s tag for you. Play nice! If you’ve already been tagged, I do sincerely apologise:
What a year this has been! Exciting with almost too much happening all at once. And by the looks of things, 2008 is going to be double that. Exciting times indeed!
To all those I’ve met and all those I socialize with without having to meet you in the flesh: May your dreams come true in this festive season. May you all get a Wii for Christmas (I ended up not getting one, but no worries, soon…) and may your plans work out perfectly in 2008! I’ve been blessed this year to have met a lot of you, and a fantastic bunch of people you can call yourselves.
Thought I’d let all the Garden Routers know that I found some Stormhoek Pinotage over here in Checkers, St Georges Square.
Like a good Hoeker, I got me a bottle and although I’ve been a friend of Stormhoek Big Love on Facebook for quite some time now already, I still hope that that 1 year supply of Stormhoek Wine comes my way… Man, I can do with it!
So here is how it works:
Go to Checkers. Should be at any Checkers!
Look for Stormhoek wine with the Big Love thing around its neck
Buy it.
Open it and drink it while you head on over to Facebook
Search for “Stormhoek Big Love” and become a friend
Wait… and while you do that, go buy more Stormhoek over at your Checkers just around the corner!
Thats all there is to it!

Are we facing a Web2.0 / Social networking / Facebook / Google / Blogging Bubble thats about to burst? Check this video. It is brilliant! Here comes another Bubble…

This is simply too good not to share. I love the xkcd comics. Python programming can make you fly high! Not so sure about that one, but give it a shot. Just don’t try everything in the medicine cupboard and then go programming. It does not work in PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, etc… In fact, no matter the language, it does not work.

This is too funny! Ok, be aware that sensitive viewers might find the language offensive, but it is still hilarious!
Some All Black supporter(s) are upset. Rightly so. Wayne Barnes did cheat them out of the RWC by not spotting the winning try came off a forward pass.
So the AB supporter went and “rectified” Wayne Barnes’ Wikipedia entry. Some of it is pretty sick stuff, but some of it was quite funny! These are some extracts I kinda enjoyed:
“He became a professional referee in April 2005, giving up a career in law to do so, because he couldn’t read any f@cking law books either!”
“England paid him to make the All Blacks lose so England can have an easier semi final against France.”
“Get some f@cking glasses.”
“He suffers from a vision-related disease which results in him being unable to see forward passes”
“He is a shit referee”
“I think a blind goat could do better than him…”
and finally:
“and f@ck wikipedia if they take this off…”

My friend Gerry emailed me this article written by a Windows to Mac convert explaining why Windows users don’t/won’t switch to Mac. There is some pretty valid arguments and one of the main reasons is that Mac zealots themselves are the main cause as they bash Windows and in general piss off Windows users by their smug arguments. Now let me confess, Mac is not perfect. Damn close, but no cigar yet.
There are a couple of interesting facts that should be highlighted:
Windows still dominate the OS market in a big way. Now we all know that the masses rule. Law of nature. Why then don’t you get more Mac bashing than there currently is? Well, for one, the Mac zealots that do the most bashing comes from a Windows background. They have worked on Windows before. Especially if they have done support and had to deal with irritating Windows users that do stupid shit. This right after you’ve told the buggers to NEVER EVER open email attachments that they are not expecting. In other words, we zealots have had unimaginable frustrating experiences with Windows and we can bash because we know what we’re bashing. Most Windows users never worked on a Mac before, so they realise that they will get ridiculed should they lash out. I seriously do not think Mac users that has always worked on Mac do a lot of bashing. I could be wrong.
Interesting that there is not as much Linux vs. Mac bashing going on. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen a few, but it is less common. I think the same principle applies as to the first point. Most Mac users have never worked on Linux, therefore stand to be ridiculed should they lash out. Me, I’ve done it all. I have the greatest respect for Linux. It is solid and stable and extremely powerful and of course free. The main difference is the UI. Mac is prettier at the moment. I have a PC here in my office with Ubuntu Feisty and I can honestly say Linux is getting there FAST. If I had to choose between Mac or Linux, I would think about it carefully. Between Linux/Mac and Windows, well, there won’t be any thinking involved!
A whole lot of Windows users are frustrated with Windows and therefore do secretly enjoy the Windows bashing. They are forced to work on Windows. I used to be like that when I was still bound to Windows by my job. Its hell on digital earth, man.
In this article, Steven Leigh says that he reckons Vista is a good OS and the best ever shipped by Microsoft. Really? Maybe Vista is the best OS Microsoft has ever come out with, we just have not seen the best side of it. It is probably still under construction.
We all have a sadistic streak in our personalities (Mac, Windows, Linux, etc… users. The whole lot of us.). Whether you like it or not, it is there. Mac and Linux folks have found the perfect alley to channel that sadistic flaw in their personalities. They irritate the living crap out of Windows users. They know it and therefore do it in order to relieve that itch. Come on, admit it. Its fun! If there was no reaction from the Windows stall, you would not do it. The more Windows zealots retaliate, the more satisfaction it gives the Windows bashers! Bring it on, I say!
Then of course, there is the simple but most important fact that MAC IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN WINDOWS!!!! Thats not arguable, it is a plain fact. What is arguable is whether Mac is better than Linux, but Windows? C’mon! No contest!
Another fact is that Mac zealots actually don’t want you to switch from Windows. If everyone switched to Mac or Linux there will be a full scale war. Linux guys are not so easy to tease and normally much more aggressive and more savvy and for sure a lot stronger (technically speaking) than their Windows counterparts! It would be difficult to argue there, and there is a good chance that it will get nasty. No, stick to Windows so we can gloat and torture you. It is us Geek’s way to get to feel how the schoolyard bully’s feel. Please. We NEED that.
As I said in the beginning, Mac is not perfect. They have done the stupidest things in the past. For example, they allowed Internet Explorer to be the default browser between 1997 and 2003. Really, how dumb can you be?!
The other fact is as time goes by and Windows evolve, we’d probably have to stay “in touch” with it so we’ll know what we’re talking about… Brrr… not a pleasant thought.
Somehow, I think, this will not be the last thing said on this issue… and for the record:
Mac > Windows
