Here is the response I received from Nedbank. Well, at least they don’t fall silent when you complain. I must mention that this feels very much like a generic response and not one that addresses my real issue…
Good morning Stii,
Thank you for your comments received and for raising
your concerns pertaining to our service with us. We realise that these
issues do not reflect favourably on our quest to continually deliver
exemplary client service, hence we would like to offer our sincere
apologies on behalf of Nedbank staff and Management for the
inconvenience caused.
Please provide us with an account number in order for
us to forward your request to the relevant Management team for the
investigation and resolution thereof. We will make every effort to
ensure that you are contacted as soon as feedback regarding this matter
is received.
Should you wish to contact us in this regard, please
use the case number quoted in the “Subject”-line, as it will assist us
in speedily finding the information relevant to this matter so that we
can provide you with feedback.
Yours sincerely
upon which I responded:
Hi,
I do not deem it necessary for you to have my Account number to
investigate and resolve this issue. This is not only about me, but your
entire client base. You should not send unsolicited messages. It is
both unprofessional and irritating. Some of your clients might condone
it. A lot of them don’t. I suggest you issue a formal apology in the
media or on your web site at least and stop doing it.
Regards

I’ve had ENOUGH of this shit now. Every second day Nedwank sends me a SMS that reads as follows:
Need Cash? You are invited to come into any Nedbank branch and apply for a personal loan of up to R100 000! For queries or to unsubscribe, call 0860 103 582.
I know a lot of SA bloggers complained about this before. I’m just gatvol. The fact that they have an unsubscribe option do not justify the SPAM. The fact that they did not send it to my email address does not disqualify it from being SPAM. I never signed anything that said “Please send me useless shit to my cellphone as I have ample time during the day to deal with it and if I don’t like it I’ll call your call centre and hold for 30 minutes just to stop getting this crap I don’t like”.
WTF? I did not want that damn SMS in the first place! Now, me, I’d rather spend 20 minutes blogging your shit than calling your call centre to unsubscribe… How are THEM apples?! If it was up to me, I’d close our business account with you and go to a bank that don’t SPAM.
The same goes for the flyers and brochures that clogs up my PO Box. Did I ask for that? Then who the HELL do those businesses think they are to stuff their crap in my mailbox? Why not come to my door and ask if I have the time or make an appointment to come speak to me about your product catalog? And if I do not have time or am not interested, at least you’ll know and maybe try at a later stage or just go away…
And the same goes for ABSA wank and Standardwank with their telesales people phoning me. If I say I do not have time, STOP! PLEASE! I’m NOT interested in explaining to your staff WHY I can’t listen for 5 minutes. IT IS NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS!!!! And if I said ONCE I do NOT want any more life insurance, PLEASE make a note on your systems so that some other asshole do not phone me 2 days later to sell me the same shit I said not to in the first place!

Yeah… whatever…
Oh and stop being a LAS. It is extremely LAME!
Note to Mxit and Mobile Q and A: Find us a solution for dealing with SMS SPAM. PLEASE!!

Two of my car’s welsh plugs broke. They “corroded”… Lucky for me, a friend’s father is a mechanic and he said that he will fix it for me. (I know NOTHING of car/engines…) I decided that while there is going to be work done on the car, we might as well service it. Off I went to Autozone to buy what is needed including 2 welsh plugs!
Got there and a guy called Pierre helped me. Unfortunately they had no welsh plugs in stock.
Normally what would happen is that they will refer you to another motor spare parts shop and you would have to go there and ask if they might have. Not Pierre! He immediately got on the phone and phoned Autozone’s competition to find out if they had plugs in stock. Got the price, ordered it and kept it aside for me. All I now had to go do is to go pick it up and pay for it. Made my life soooo extremely simple.
I thank you Pierre! You got yourself an evangelist. That is an excellent example of “going that extra mile” for your customers! If you ever get stuck in George and need to buy any spare parts, then do not even think twice about it. Autozone is the place to go!
Pierre, you need a raise man! You’ve done a simple thing which books have been written about! Keep it up.

As mentioned by Gerhard from blik.co.za, he was doing it for fun and for the love of it. I applaud you! Soon Ananzi is going to wake up and need a solid Web 2.0 strategy and development team and you would be in the spotlight.
(Although I wouldn’t bank on THAT!)
Seriously though, I do get what Stefano says:
“If one really wants to create an afrikaans version of muti, why not
approach muti and collaborate. In stead of going solo and dilute the
market shares of an already tiny tiny tiny existing market share?”
I’m not sure of the facts (hopefully the heroes over at muti can shed some light on this…), but I do not see any revenue streams for muti.co.za either! They don’t do Google-Ads or any other form of ads. You cannot buy subscription from them. As far as I’m concerned, muti.co.za is as experimental and a labour of love as blik.co.za is.
I agree to what Stefano says . Lets get in on muti.co.za and make it GR8! platform. If we can add a couple unique features, then maybe muti.co.za could go big in the international arena… you know… kick Digg’s ASS! In the spirit of Web 2.0, lets build it as a true social platform developed by the society using it… so Neville, where’s the wiki and the sources?
The fact there is such a “tiny tiny tiny existing market” is our own fault however. We should not even worry about diluting market shares. We should work at it to expand the market! I refuse to believe that we as South Africans cannot establish a strong Web 2.0 following! The only reason why it is still small is due to the lack of education and hype! If we can establish more and more Web 2.0 sites and services that can be “sold” to the non-Web 2.0-ers, everyone will benefit in the long run!
See? Thats why we DO need Web 2.0 hype.

Mike and Dave’s Amplitute episode 5 is out and available! Brilliant as ever, guys!
A special thanx for the mention of our GeekDinner on the 9th of February!
Oh and I loved the interview. Most informative and interesting! Good going guys!
Oh and if I may make an suggestion towards your tonsil of the week:
Coca-Cola for changing the shape of their 2 Litre bottle! How stupid is THAT. Their 2 Litre bottle is sooo unique and is a brand of its own. They changed it to some cheapish stupid shape like all their imitators use…

…and the loser is… YOU! Tyler over at Kiefpiet planted this seed this morning when he could not find Kiefpiet on Ananzi and Jonga.
Why Ananzi And Jonga Suck
This got me thinking… stii.za.net feature on Google when you search mootools. (mootools is a javascript library. See here) Not on the first couple of pages anymore (I think), but it does feature none the less. So I went and searched for “mootools” on the following South African engines:
The results, I’m afraid to say, were in some cases a JOKE. Its almost as funny as bLaugh’s comics… So without further ado, lets look at the results:
Up first is everybody’s favorite:

Almost got excited here, but alas: “WTF!!!”

The result had a 48% relevance and I don’t see the word mootools even featured.
Next up: AARDVARK! I really had tremendously high hopes here, since their search is powered by Google, but I seemed to forget that the other power behind Aardvark is Telkom. Enough said.

Their search was fast at least… Maybe it was too fast and overlooked some results.
Up next was Funnel. So when I saw their home page I though “Hey, they look like Google! Here is hope!” HAH! Was I wrong OR WHAT?!

It at least tried to sound clever… It knew a big word! Unlike or next contestant:
Jonga!! EISH!!

Nope. Not tools… Although there is “
Displaying results 1 to 10 of 2,561,494 found in 0.245s” for tools! Lightning fast as welll… Their footer at least confirmed my suspicions that Jonga = Clueless. “Searching at least 26,443,000
web pages and growing.” At least? Don’t know how much web pages you are searching for sure?
Next up: 24.com - blip-bleep… They found the most results. Although I must add in 0.765 seconds! Maybe the lesson to be learned here is it takes time to find results!

All I can say is that I’m a bit shocked. I knew the situation was bad, but this is simple ridiculous! No wonder most people in South Africa do not know what a blog is. These guys have the audience and are supposed to set the internet standards in South Africa.
Also, this post by Dave comparing Ananzi’s top 10 search terms with Google’s makes a lot more sense now, since searching for ANYTHING else than the keywords mentioned in that post will result in nothing!
I would love to hear from the guys mentioned above. Explaining themselves and what they intend to improve the situation. I guess thats wishful thinking… sort of like thinking that I will find some results on them…
