Linux FINALLY!
I’ve been longing for a change… Windows with all their hype(not!) on Vista was making me shudder. So I went to our first user group meeting last night and obtained Ubuntu from Charl (version 6.06, dapper).
Got back home plugged in a spare hard drive and installed Ubuntu. Man, I’ll tell you, its like riding a bicycle! I used to be a systems administrator for Linux servers back in the day of Redhat 7.1 & 8.0 and thought I’d be pretty much in the dark, but it all came back to me in a FLASH!
So I rolled my dual-boot installation. Was very quick!
I had issues connecting to secure sites (sites running on https://) on Firefox. I figured it was prolly a Firefox issue so I downloaded my FAVORITE Flock. Nope, same old story…
Then I remembered the Forums. Forums are your FRIEND. So I googled over to the Ubuntu forums and searched for an answer. Lo and behold, five minutes later and its sorted!
Problem is that ipv6 causes shit. So I had to disable it as follows:
Opened a terminal.
cd /etc/modprobe.d
sudo chmod 666 aliases (aliases is a read-only file so I had to change the permissions to edit the damn file)
vi aliases
Changed the line that reads:
alias net-pf-10 ipv6
to
alias net-pf-10 off ipv6
Rebooted the system.
To test if ipv6 is still running I typed the following command:
ip a | grep inet6
If the command returns a result ipv6 is still running. If not, problem solved!
Damn! It feels GOOOOD to be back! I must say, it looks a damn side different to what I was used to back in the days. The okes have been busy… Well done! Kudus to the Ubuntu guys!
PS: This is my first blog post using my favorite Flock on Ubuntu!

WElcome back stii!
Hey Stii
Well done, Linux makes an excellent desktop os these days and especially Ubuntu. Were it not for having to deal with clients that insist on Windows I would have banned it on my own machines a long time ago. I also use Ubuntu as a development server.
Regards
Welcome! Been running Kubuntu Edgy a while now, and still feel as excited as when I first installed it
Glad to hear you’re back on track. Windows isn’t exactly what I would call an operating system. I would call it a problemating system maybe.
Anyway, what about some screenshots?
Ubuntu Rocks!!! Well done for making the switch!
I use Gentoo Linux (gentoo.org) on all my servers, even my desktop, here are some screen shots, of me and my bros. laptops.

[...] Recently, I rediscovered Linux. Ubuntu to be exact. I’m loving every minute of it! A while back I talked to Neville Newey and ever since he told me that Muti was done in Python, I got that restless feeling in my ass. I am now spending “waiting time” looking deeper into Python. [...]
Howzit. I’m looking forward to anyone’s comparison on Ubuntu with GNOME Beryl. I’m totally sold on Suse, bt hearing so much about Ubuntu.
